Job Description:
The Center for Literacy is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing a range of literacy services, including reading, writing, math, life and work skills, to help a diverse population of learners meet their needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals. The Center for Literact is seeking to fill its Youth Instructor position.
Responsibilities:
- Provide literacy instruction (reading, writing & math) to two classes of multi-level, young adults (17-21) who have special education and/or mental health needs and have obtained their high school diploma.
- Administer CASAS assessment for pre- & post-testing. Learners are participating in the Education Plus Youth Program and have goals of attending post-secondary education, job training or employment.
- Document lesson plans, attendance, & assessment results.
- Track learner progress through learner portfolios.
- Attend monthly meetings.
Qualifications:
- BA in Education or related field; Special Ed certification preferred.
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity in lesson planning, a passion for serving young adults, & an ability to plan for differentiated instruction (multi-level class with varying goals for participation).
- Strong written & oral communication skills, organizational skills, and an ability to work as a team member.
Rate: $14.50-$16.50 per hour
Schedule: 9-1pm, M-F
Location: CCP West Campus, 39th & Chestnut St.
