The Folk Arts-Cultural Treasures Charter School (FACTS) is a K-8 charter school located in the Chinatown area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We are seeking a Pennsylvania-certified Special Education Teacher for the 2019-20 school year.
Additional content certification in grades 4-8 or 7-12 preferred.

FACTS teachers challenge, inspire, and actively engage students in their own learning process by teaching both for content and for critical thinking and life character development. Special Education Teachers work cooperatively with Classroom Teachers as well as with ELD and other specialist teachers.
The Special Education Teacher develops instructional programs to meet individual needs of students within the regular education classroom. As an instructional team member, he or she acts in an advisor role to students and teachers. In addition to providing instruction across a variety of settings (push-in, pull-out, and/or 1:1), he or she will also assist content area teachers with modifications and strategies. The Special Education teacher is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the development, monitoring, and implementation of a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Teacher responsibilities outside the classroom include parent-teacher conferences, student-teacher community meetings, and shared duties such as recess supervision, chaperoning activities and service learning projects. All teachers also come together on a regular basis to assess school needs, discuss best teaching practices, and hone professional skills.
FACTS teachers implement curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with FACTS's mission statement by maintaining a school atmosphere in which human and cultural values are shared to the fullest possible extent, and in which attainment of self-reliance, responsible behavior and a positive self-image are of prime importance.

  • Understanding of and support for FACTS’ mission is required.
  • Pennsylvania teaching certification is required.
  • Additional certifications in middle years content areas are a plus.
  • Additional ESL certification is a plus.
  • Sincere concern and affection for students and parents is required.
  • Excellent planning skills, computer proficiency and word processing skills are required.
  • Genuine desire to work cooperatively with colleagues & the capacity to work effectively with diverse populations is required.
  • Experience in differentiated instruction and collaborative teaching is preferred.
  • Successful relevant teaching experience in an urban school setting is preferred.
  • Fluency in another language in addition to English is a plus.
