Job Description:
The Folk Arts-Cultural Treasures Charter School (FACTS) is a K-8 charter school located in the Chinatown area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. FACTS was named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School.  

Much of FACTS’s success is due to our culture of teacher collaboration.  FACTS teachers plan together, share successful practices, and support each other’s growth. FACTS provides children with an exemplary education that utilizes traditional arts and cultures found within their own and neighboring communities as the catalyst for critical inquiry and community engagement. FACTS has high academic standards, is community-based, incorporates and respects the lives of students and their families, engages students in understanding their own cultures and communities, and engages students in understanding their role as active participants in working for a just society. 

We are currently seeking a Pennsylvania-certified Special Education Teacher for the 2019-20 school year to join our team. Additional certifications in grades 4-8 or 7-12 content areas preferred. 

Special Education Teachers work cooperatively with Classroom Teachers as well as with ELL and other specialist teachers. The Special Education Teacher develops instructional programs to meet individual needs of students within the regular education classroom. 
Responsibilities include: • Works with students individually or in small groups on a daily basis focusing on specific skills • Responsible for coordinating the development, monitoring, and implementation of inclusion student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) • Maintains accurate and confidential records of all assigned students  • Assess the ability and potential of students requiring a specific study program using a variety of tests and other forms of assessments  • Develops/adapts lessons to enhance the affective and cognitive development of students  • Provides information, support, and communication with parents and families • Request and maintains equipment and supplies necessary for inclusion students and collaborates with content area teachers to provide assistance to special needs students •  Facilitates resolution of problems that might arise with special ed. students and parents •  Assesses student performance frequently and objectively as required by IEP • Interprets the educational program to parents and other community members through personal conferences, meetings and various media using the primary language when appropriate  • Consistently monitors progress on IEP goals and communicates weekly with teachers and supervisor regarding all pull-out sessions •  Advocates, nurtures, and sustains a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth • Develops, adapts, and provides teaching teams with a schedule of services on a regular basis. • Participates in ongoing professional development designed to improve student achievement as well as monthly special ed. Meetings • Implements curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with FACTS's mission statement.  • Performs other duties of an adjunct nature, which are necessary to smooth operation of the school. 
  • Understanding of and support for FACTS’ mission is required.
  • Pennsylvania teaching certification in Special Education is required. 
  • Additional ESL certification is a plus.
  • Sincere concern and affection for students and parents is required.
  • Excellent planning skills, computer proficiency and word processing skills are required.
  • Genuine desire to work cooperatively with colleagues & the capacity to work effectively with diverse populations is required.
  • Experience in differentiated instruction and collaborative teaching is preferred.
  • Successful relevant teaching experience in an urban school setting is preferred.
  • Fluency in another language in addition to English is a plus.
