POSITION:                       Human Resource Generalist       
POSITION TERM:            12 Month
REPORTS TO:                 Human Resources Director
Date:                                January 2019
 
Position Summary:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing a wide variety of human resource tasks, including but not limited to recruiting, training, employee relations, benefits, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation and employment law compliance. This position supports a variety of Human Resource projects and process improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of union and non union personnel policies and procedures
  • Administers human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel
  • Answer employee questions and address employee concerns
  • Assists with coaching, counseling and guiding managers regarding employee disciplinary actions
  • Maintains working relationship with union representatives and adheres to terms of labor contract
  • Act as back-up in processing all new hires, changes, and terminations, while maintaining accurate employee records
  • Conducts new employee orientations
  • Maintain documentation relating to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, and disciplinary actions. Maintains personnel files.
  • Assists with recruitment tasks as needed (reviews applications, interviews, job fairs, etc)
  • Assists in evaluation and creation of reports
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned
Competencies:
  • Ethical conduct
  • Background in labor relations related to the Education sector
  • Possess superb written and oral communication skills
  • Analytical with the ability to identify problems and present viable solutions
  • Positive attitude and able to independently manage projects and workload in a fast paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
  • Excellent computer skills including Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Database management experience preferred
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources or Employee Relations, or 3-5 years of relevant human resource experience
  • Experience working in an education environment
  • 2-3 years demonstrated Union experience
  • General knowledge of employment laws and best practices
  • Familiarity with legislation concerning employments such as: ADA, FMLA, EEOC, FLSA, Title VII
  • Experience in the administration of benefit and compensation programs and other human resource programs
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers.
