Early Childhood Services at Elwyn are committed to providing quality early learning experiences for all the children and families served.  We provide a dynamic and nurturing environment for children, 6-weeks through 5 years of age that encourages creativity, self-discovery and independence.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director assists the Center Director in ensuring the health, safety and quality of education for all children under the Center's care. Under the direction of the Center Director, the Assistant Director collaborates with staff to ensure that developmentally-appropriate curriculum and classroom activities are properly delivered; all accreditation/licensing regulations are followed and that the documentation of the growth of the students and of the goals of the Center are completed.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide supervision of assigned staff in areas including, but not limited to, recruitment, selection, leadership, coaching, training, performance management, promotion, discipline and termination
  • Complete and oversee all accreditation/licensing processes for Department of Health and Human Services, Keystone STARS, and National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC) with activities including but not limited to preparing accreditation and licensing paperwork on time, ensuring all staff credentials and trainings are current and up-to-date, staying up-to-date on accreditation and licensing standards, and preparing for assessment visits
  • Oversee the developmentally-appropriate instructional activities presented by Center staff to the children including but not limited to reviewing lesson plans referencing early learning standards, completion of Ounce Scale Assessment (OUNCE) and work sampling, and collaborating on the development of individualized program planning where needed and appropriate
  • Communicate with Center families on an on-going basis by various modalities to ensure an open and inviting atmosphere, including but not limited to weekly newsletter, email, and in person
  • Develop appropriate outreach activities to engage families and the surrounding community by planning and organizing family nights, socials, and children-friendly activities
  • Attend and actively participating in designated Childcare and Agency meetings to keep program current and informed of upcoming and new programmatic changes
  • Maintain and instruct the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) program for the Center
  • Provide coverage in classrooms when necessary
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, safety care training, and medication administration using agency-trained protocols
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree and Pennsylvania Department of Education or Private Academic School Certification in Early Childhood Education and/or Elementary Education; Master's degree and/or Special Education Certification preferred
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities with attention to detail
  • Must be able to perform CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, and safety care techniques using agency-trained protocols
  • Knowledge of early learning standards and stages of development
  • Knowledge of accreditation/licensing processes and requirements for Department of Health and Human Services, Keystone STARS, and NAEYC preferred
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of/experience using/ Pelican, OUNCE, Work Sampling and Sprout preferred
  • Must have current, valid driver's license in state of residence, three (3) years driving experience in the United States, and acceptable driving record
