Director of Student and Family Counseling
Freire Charter Schools is currently seeking a full-time Director of Student and Family Counseling this position is open immediately. Freire team members are forward-thinking team players passionate about working with and unleashing the potential of our diverse student population. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the emotional needs of students, often through drop-in, emergency counseling
  • Handle mental health emergencies as they arise and follow up appropriately to ensure students are receiving proper care
  • Regularly communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding students’ emotional needs
  • Form a partnership with field placement supervisors at local colleges to recruit and supervise graduate level counseling interns
  • Lead a team of approximately 10 counseling interns
  • Assign students to counseling interns as needed and ensure that students’ emotional needs are being met
  • Meet with counseling interns individually for weekly for supervision per their graduation requirements
  • Complete all paperwork required from the colleges’ internship programs

Qualifications
Successful candidates will have the following attributes:
  • Master's degree, preferably in counseling or a counseling-related field
  • Minimum three years experience working in the counseling field
  • Experience working in a school setting
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or related field preferred, will consider applicants working towards licensure.
  • Awareness of mental health supports available in Philadelphia.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to engage students, parents, colleagues, and community members in supporting youth development
