Job Goal:  Building Assistants collaborate with teachers and administrators to create an environment that is safe for students and educators and conducive to helping them achieve their goals. Monitors maintain order in school corridors and ensure students attend classes punctually.


Job Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma required; Associates degree preferred.
  2. Previous work with inner city youth a plus.
  3. Secure three background checks:
    • PA State Police Criminal Record Check
    • PA Child Abuse History Clearance (ChildLine)
    • FBI Fingerprint Check



Essential Functions: 
  1. Provide support in monitoring students’ behavior and maintain order.
  2. Maintain a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration and community patrons.
  3. Effective interpersonal skills.
  4. Be a positive role model for the students with whom you are working. Students are looking to you for guidance, so avoid the use of inappropriate language and maintain an air of caring professionalism.
  5. Notify your building Principal immediately of any changes in your schedule.
  6. You are expected to arrive on time and to stay for the duration.
  7. Perform other duties and/or complete special projects as assigned.



Physical Requirements:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, use hands to the finger(s), handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, use fingers to type and/or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  The physical demands of this position will also include the ability of the individual to perform all of the essential functions and related responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.


Work Environment:  This position normally performs the majority of work in a school building or work office environment.
