BASIC FUNCTION:
  The K-12 School Social Worker promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. The School Social Worker significantly contributes to the development of a healthy, safe, and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student successes and by implementing effective intervention strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Minimum of three years counseling or social work experience in a private, public, or charter school setting.
  2. Master’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work; appropriate Pennsylvania Licensure of LSW or LPC required.
  3. Valid Driver’s License; willing to travel between AGCS campuses.
  4. Must have working knowledge of truancy guidelines and regulations.
  5. Familiarity with education prevention groups.
  6. Working knowledge of local community resources.
  7. Working knowledge of SBAP.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services
JOB LOCATION: State Road/Early Learning Center
POSITION STATUS:  Full-Time, 10 Months
SCHEDULE: M-F 7:15am – 3:15pm (SR) or 8:00am – 4:00pm (ELC)
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Identifies and assesses academic problems through analysis of factors impinging on student adjustment including factors in the home, school, and community.
  2. Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting.
  3. Completes psychosocial assessments to assist in the determination of special education services.
  4. Implements services to comply with legislative mandates.
  5. Complete home visits as determined necessary by Child Study Teams
  6. Coordinates services for the child through the family, the school and community.
  7. Assists the school multi-disciplinary team to develop an understanding of the holistic needs of the child.
  8. Provides individual and/or group counseling to children as part of their school program as identified as needed by educational teams.
  9. Mobilizes or provides in-school or community support services for children experiencing situational stress.
  10. Facilitates the parents’ focus on implementing necessary referrals to community resources for the well-being of the child in at-risk situations.
  11. Coordinates and integrates the proper exchange of information between teacher and parents, and the home, school and all other agencies working with the family.
  12. Determines and implements appropriate therapeutic strategies to effect changes in behavioral / social interactions of students and their families.
  13. Provides individual and group therapeutic counseling to students and their families.
  14. Provides parent/guardian educational workshops on identified issues related to child development, stress reduction, discipline and safety, and teacher/parent/student communication.
  15. Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning.
  16. Participate as a member of Child Study, IEPs, SAIPs, 504’s, and other school-based teams to develop interventions for promoting students’ academic success.
  17. ACCESS billing as prescribed by the definition in the IEP.
  18. Serves on both school-based and system-wide committees to address educational issues, adjustment problems, safety issues, and program development for students.
  19. Provides crisis intervention services.
  20. Provides social work case management for students and families.
  21. Provides staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning process; keeps teachers apprised of situations in the home and community which may influence a child’s overall functioning in school.
