Job Description:

At the current time, a vacancy exists for a full-time Behaviorist within the Student Services division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit, located at the Learning Center in Coatesville, PA.

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology or related area required
  • Advanced training in behavior analysis and modification is essential - RBT certification preferred
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with severe and complex behavior challenges in school, community, or residential setting required
  • Documented training and experience in behavior analysis, positive behavior supports, behavior modification, collaborative consultation, bio psycho social aspects of behavior and school law required
  • Valid PA driver's license
  • Current child abuse, criminal history, and FBI Fingerprint clearance (conducted by the CCIU upon hire)

Duties & Responsibilities:
This is a 10-month, 210-day project staff position specializing in behavior change. The function of this role is to provide direct assistance to educational staff, administrators, and parents in the areas of behavior change and to address challenging behaviors of students at the Learning Center. The Behaviorist provides individual and group trainings, supports with data collection and implementation of positive behavior support plans, works as a consultant with school personnel, and provides expertise regarding behavior modification in collaboration with the school consultant/analyst. The Behaviorist provides services and documents that are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. These services and documents are based on best practices, research-validated methods, and PDE-supported procedures and materials.

Salary 2020-2021 School Year:
Project Band 13, $41,830 - $52,288 annually, prorated based upon start date

Monday- Friday; 210 days/yr; 7.5 hrs/day; 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

The Learning Center is a middle school/high school that serves students ages 13-21 that have been unsuccessful in their home districts. All of the students that attend the Learning Center have IEPs. There are 2 main programs within the Learning Center:
Options/Options Plus:
The Options Program works with students experiencing mental health issues who demonstrate an interest and desire to learn but who are reluctant to receive mental health services.

These students are provided the skills to work cooperatively with their peers. They learn to deal with everyday issues at their ability level and the educational staff provides individual attention, both when dealing with the academics and behaviors.

Students in the Options program may need assistance to develop strategies to help:
  • Manage their behavior
  • Meet learning objectives
  • Maintain emotional stability
  • Accept mental health services
  • Overcome drug and alcohol issues
Career Academy:
The typical day for a Career Academy student is split between a half-day in academic classes and a half-day in their pre-vocational shop program. The Career Academy offers a variety of pre-vocational classroom options, taught by very experienced teachers. Pre-vocational classroom options include culinary, cosmetology, technology shop, automotive shop, carpentry, hospitality, horticulture, and exploratory/project shop.
