Job Description:
The mission of One Bright Ray Community High School, an independent, accelerated high school, is to provide quality education to Philadelphia’s, over-aged and under-credited students in search of a positive school experience while earning their diploma. We provide a supportive environment free of negative labels that challenge each student to explore his or her personal and academic potential through Project-Based Learning. We engage in restorative practices to create healthy respectful relationships that foster productivity, a positive outlook, and high self-esteem. We provide a second chance, sometimes a last chance, for our students in their pursuit of a high school diploma.

The Youth Mentor provides mentorship to identified students in need of emotional and social guidance. The Youth Mentor shall have an understanding of the psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences as they interact with the educational process. The Youth Mentor will be part of the Emotional Support Team (EST), and work collaboratively with site administration and the Director of Emotional Support.

One Bright Ray CHS is accepting resumes for an experienced Youth Mentor for the Upcoming 2021-2022 Academic School Year.

Qualifications: Associates or equivalent college credits in Human Service fields (Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, etc.)
Years of Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years
Position: Full-Time 

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for assisting the school leadership in carrying out the mission and vision of One Bright Ray Community High School.  
  • Understand and practice in accordance with, federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and/or policies that relate to students and families; such as, child protection/child abuse, special education, attendance, education rights and privacy    
  • Uphold Restorative Practice motto
  • Ability to work with specialized groups, such as student parents, unaccompanied youth, adjudicated youth, youth with special education requirements, etc.
  • Familiar working with community resources: able to connect students as needed
  • Coordinate and facilitate on-site partnerships and resources
  • Manage caseload of 20-30 identified students
  • Coordinate and co-facilitate student group sessions
  • Create and manage student mentorship program for identified caseload 
  • Complete and manage regular student progress reports on identified caseload
  • Complete and maintain student files/documentation
  • Communicate student concerns regularly with site administration and the Director of Emotional Support
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Director of Emotional Support.
