Job Description:

  Position Type: Full-time, 10 Month 
  Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:45AM to 3:30PM
  Reports To: Program Supervisor
 Position Summary

If you love working with children with special needs, work with us!  We are looking for a patient, caring individuals with experience working in a special education classroom to join our team for the 2020-2021 School Year!  The Classroom Aide supports a certified teacher with preparing instructional materials, implementing lesson plans, reinforcing instruction/tutoring, monitoring student behavior, and documenting student progress throughout the school day.

Safety care training is provided. 

Salary Rate:  Starting at $17.33 per hour.  This is a school year position working late August to June and pay is spread out over 12 months (September to August).  Summer work is available for additional compensation. 
  Position Requirements
  1. Two years of college or high school graduate with two years’ experience working with children ages 5 to 12 with special needs in an organized setting. 
  2. Paraeducator training and/or experience working with children with behavioral needs is preferred.
  3. Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the educational process.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others).
  5. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Actively assist in implementing lesson plans, reinforcing instruction/tutoring, and documenting student progress of assigned students throughout the school day. 
  2. Observe, monitor, and redirect behavior of assigned students during regular classroom time, special class times, transition periods, and on field trips according to school and program procedures. Maintain accurate records on student progress and behavior for school programs and outside agencies as required. 
  3. Accompany assigned students to art, music, physical education, computer classes, and special events and provide assistance to the specialty teacher during class as needed.
  4. Accompany assigned students to individual and group therapy sessions as needed.
  5. Assist the teacher with testing, recordkeeping, and progress monitoring for assigned students.
  6. Under the teacher’s direction, communicate with parents and staff regarding student progress. Participate in interdisciplinary and inter-agency meetings as required.
  7. Provide a nurturing environment for all students. Enforce school policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner to ensure the health and safety of all students. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
  8. Supervise students in the absence of the teacher whenever necessary.
  9. Serve as a mentor for new staff members and a source of information and help for substitute teachers assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  10. Maintains a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with colleagues, students and parents at all times.
  11. Attends and actively participates in all faculty meetings, in-service meetings, and other meetings as required.
  12. Maintains proper certification for assignment and remains educationally informed in all related areas including PDE regulations and state/national standards through continued professional study and attending workshops and conferences. 
  13. Actively participate in at least 20 hours of staff development activities directly related to the job assignment during each school year.
