Security Officer
West Oak Lane Charter School

Essential Functions:
The School Security Officer shall be responsible for protecting the safety and welfare of students and school personnel in accordance with policies of West Oak Lane Charter School.
  • Actively assist in supervising general activity in corridors, lunchrooms, restrooms and school grounds during the hours in which school is in session.
  • Monitor the building at all times, including the monitoring of lavatories periodically during the day
  • Patrols the campus and surrounding areas walking.
  • Inspect I.D.’s at the Main Entrance, and check in all visitors.
  • Assists with the administrations and the operations of the Security Department, while adhering to the policies and procedures of West Oak Lane Charter School
  • Monitor and operate CCTV Systems, Mobile Radios, Intercom and Fire /Burglar Alarms.
  • Respond to campus emergencies situations and follow the school’s protocol in a professional manner. Responding promptly to the signal for calling the School Security Officer.
  • Able to work under pressure independently and/or in a group setting.
  • Direct campus traffic, parking, school bus drop-offs and pick-ups.
  • Assists Maintenance at times with snow/debris removal and other activities.
  • Other duties as directed by the Security Supervisor or School Administrators.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, High School Diploma or GED.
  • Required FBI fingerprints, Child abuse background check and PA criminal check.
  • At least 1 year of experience with School Security, Law Enforcement and/or working with children.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Communication Skills (English) oral and written; Confidence in conveying information to all types of members of the community, including teachers, administrators, other staff members and students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of staff and students.
  • Ability to work as a team member and handle frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrates good sound judgment and dependability. Reacts well under pressure. Takes responsibility for own actions. Conducts oneself in a professional manner.
  • Treats people with respect; Works ethically and with integrity; Approaches others in a tactful manner.
  • Maintain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Requires prolonged standing, walking, stooping, twisting and squatting on a constant basis.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Work in wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school.
