ESL Program Specialist
English As A Second Language Program Specialist Elementary Position
K. D. Markley Elementary School/General Wayne Elementary School
Full-time position
Position Purpose
The ESL Teacher will develop and implement a comprehensive ESL program, facilitating English language acquisition and academic success for students who are non-native English speakers They will collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to help students reach their full educational potential while fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instructional Planning and Delivery
- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the needs of English Language Learners
- For Learners (ELLs) at various proficiency levels:
- Utilize various instructional strategies and resources to engage students in the learning process.
- Integrate language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) with content area instruction.
- Assess and monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction as needed.
- Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring
- Administer language proficiency assessments and use data to inform instruction.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and performance.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and staff about student progress and areas for instructional needs.
- Collaboration and Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support the integration of ELLs in the general education classroom.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ESL instruction.
- Serve as a resource for staff on issues related to ELLs and language acquisition.
- Classroom Management and Environment
- Create a positive, nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Promote cultural understanding and appreciation among students and staff.
- Family and Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with students' families and provide them with resources and support to help their child(ren) succeed.
- Participate in school and community events to promote the ESL program and engage with stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, TESOL, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification with an ESL endorsement.
- Experience teaching English Language Learners in a K-8 setting.
- Strong knowledge of language acquisition theories and best practices in ESL instruction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse students, families, and staff.
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance instruction and student learning.
