ESL Program Specialist

English As A Second Language Program Specialist Elementary Position

K. D. Markley Elementary School/General Wayne Elementary School

Full-time position



Position Purpose
The ESL Teacher will develop and implement a comprehensive ESL program, facilitating English language acquisition and academic success for students who are non-native English speakers They will collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to help students reach their full educational potential while fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Instructional Planning and Delivery
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the needs of English Language Learners
  • For Learners (ELLs) at various proficiency levels:
  • Utilize various instructional strategies and resources to engage students in the learning process.
  • Integrate language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) with content area instruction.
  • Assess and monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction as needed.
 
 
  • Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring
  • Administer language proficiency assessments and use data to inform instruction.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and performance.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and staff about student progress and areas for instructional needs.
 
  • Collaboration and Professional Development
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support the integration of ELLs in the general education classroom.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ESL instruction.
  • Serve as a resource for staff on issues related to ELLs and language acquisition.
 
  • Classroom Management and Environment
  • Create a positive, nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Promote cultural understanding and appreciation among students and staff.
 
 
  • Family and Community Engagement
  • Build strong relationships with students' families and provide them with resources and support to help their child(ren) succeed.
  • Participate in school and community events to promote the ESL program and engage with stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, TESOL, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification with an ESL endorsement.
  • Experience teaching English Language Learners in a K-8 setting.
  • Strong knowledge of language acquisition theories and best practices in ESL instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse students, families, and staff.
  • Proficiency in using technology to enhance instruction and student learning.
