Job Description:
The English Language Development (ELD) Specialist serves as a member of the Educational Support Team, providing content driven push-in and pull-out services to High School English Learners throughout the school day. The ELD Specialist is responsible for screening and identifying newly enrolled ELs by following the identification guidelines of the School District of Philadelphia. The ELD Specialist must be able to develop and implement strategies for ELs into the students’ content classes through individual and small-group instruction. The ELD Specialist must be able to generate and adhere to a self-determined schedule at each campus based on factors such as but not limited to caseload, students’ individual needs, and level of proficiency. This role is also expected to provide consistent support to content teachers to ensure that EL strategies and accommodations are being implemented across content areas and integrated into lesson planning and general instruction.

Additionally, the ELD Specialist is responsible for all administrative and coordinating duties aligned with ELD Program Development. This includes but is not limited to overseeing ELD compliance at each individual campus, coordinating annual PA ACCESS exams, coordinating WIDA and PA ACCESS Testing and Technology, collaborating with the Educational Support team for Dual Identified ELs, as well as maintaining communication with the Office of Multilingual Curriculum and Programs (OMCP) and the OMCP Liaison at the School District of Philadelphia to ensure compliance.

The ELD Specialist:
  • Supports the implementation of One Bright Ray CHS’s vision and mission and approved Student Code of Conduct set by the CEO of One Bright Ray, Inc
  • Ensures that all campuses of OBR are compliant with all PA and Federal Laws, board policies, and civil regulations pertaining to English Language Development and English Learners as is evident by documentation, PA ACCESS and Keystone exams, EL Data Files, and effective program design
  • Establishes a professional and respectful rapport with members of the Ed Support Department as well as members of the faculty, staff, administration, students, and parents
  • Display ethical and professional behavior and standards at all times
  • Meets all ELD specific deadlines set by OBR Inc, OMCP, and the State of PA
  • Aides in creating a culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership and self-advocacy
  • Attends all mandated trainings and meetings held by the School District of Philadelphia
  • Provides awareness, documentation, and discussion with administration, faculty, and staff regarding students’ background, educational history, and academic progress and needs through consistent verbal or written communication and during weekly Faculty/Staff campus meetings
  • Ensures that accommodations are implemented throughout content courses
  • Supports content teachers in integrating EL strategies into lesson planning and instruction across content areas
  • Develops progress monitoring tools and resources
  • Maintains processes and procedures for efficient record keeping
  • Attends all mandatory training provided by the School District of Philadelphia
  • Certifies that PowerSchool is updated with most recent information and logs all family correspondence
  • Stores ACCESS and WIDA Scores for 3 years
  • Responsible for ordering ACCESS testing materials
  • Sends ACCESS scores to families
  • Facilitates meetings between teachers and EL students
  • Identifies and prepares students for reclassification throughout the year because of the rolling nature of enrollment
  • Ensures that case load is accurately identified and rectifies any and all inaccuracies with OMCP
  • Prepares and maintains EL Data files for each student
  • Creates Individual Learning Plan (ILP) for each learner and disseminates information to content teachers
  • Documents informal teacher check-ins
  • Regularly monitors and shares grades and academic progress with students
  • Inputs Initial Screening data in Infinite Campus
  • Monitors students’ attendance and academic achievement, supporting students to complete missed work
Position: Full-Time 
Schedule: Mon–Fri, 8am–3:15pm
