Position Summary
Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered High School Science Teacher to deliver engaging, rigorous, and inquiry-based science instruction. The ideal candidate will inspire students through hands-on labs, scientific exploration, and cross-disciplinary integration aligned to Pennsylvania's STEELS standards. This teacher will foster a safe, inclusive, and innovative learning environment that supports students in developing both content mastery and critical thinking skills.

Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver daily science lessons that align to PA STEELS standards and the school’s curriculum scope and sequence.
- Instruct students in one or more science disciplines (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, Environmental Science).
- Design and supervise lab experiments that promote inquiry and application of scientific concepts.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students with IEPs, English Learners, and gifted students.
- Utilize arts integration, real-world examples, and project-based learning to enhance student engagement.
- Administer diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments aligned to student outcomes and standards.
- Use data to inform instruction, interventions, and enrichments.
- Maintain accurate student records in the student information system (SIS) and gradebook.
- Prepare students for state-mandated assessments, including Keystone Exams in Biology.
- Implement accommodations and modifications per IEPs, 504 Plans, and English Language Development plans.
- Create a positive, safe, and structured classroom climate that promotes respect and academic risk-taking.
- Support the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and positive behavior systems.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and coordinate interdisciplinary projects.
- Attend IEP, staff, and department meetings as needed.
- Maintain open, proactive communication with families/guardians regarding student progress.
- Participate in professional development, parent conferences, duty coverage, and school events.
- Maintain safe storage, handling, and disposal of lab chemicals in accordance with OSHA, PDE, and local policies.
- Provide lab safety training to students and enforce all safety protocols.
- Track and order necessary supplies and lab materials in coordination with administration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Pennsylvania Instructional I or II Certificate in at least one of the following:
- Biology 7–12
- Chemistry 7–12
- General Science 7–12
- Physics 7–12
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or a related field
- Demonstrated content knowledge and understanding of inquiry-based science instruction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Google Workspace and educational technology (e.g., Google Classroom)
- PA Criminal History Check (Act 34)
- PA Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
- FBI Fingerprinting (Act 114)
- Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form (Act 24/PDE-6004)
- Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training Certificate
- Act 168 Employment History Review
