Job Description:
The Director for Special Assignments provides vital leadership and support to public school districts and local education agencies with specialized services in areas of Leadership, Special Education, Pupil Services, and other niche programs in K-12 education. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is instrumental with providing expertise, guidance, and innovative solutions for program development to meet the evolving needs of stakeholders. This position is an entrepreneurial leadership position to drive new program and service delivery options to stakeholders. This position is placed in LEAs on special assignments to support staffing for stakeholders.
 
Essential Functions
  • Using a continuous improvement model, design and execute action plans aligned with strategic priorities and continuous improvement goals, monitor the effectiveness of all education programming, and provide guidance on necessary programmatic changes and expectations to ensure increased student achievement and social-emotional learning for students.
  • Support and lead the district or LEA in overseeing the planning, development, and evaluation of programs such as special education, pupil services, student services, counseling, psychological services, health services, and social work or additional areas as required.
  • Provide on site short and long term support filling vacancies in LEAs.
  • Support and assist in the development of budgets, ensuring efficiency use of resources.
  • Support and lead professional development opportunities for staff on topics related to the area of supervision.
  • Advise and lead the strategic and operational planning including short- and long-term program development and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance by directing, supervising, and evaluating the efforts of assigned school district administrators. Maintain expertise in state and federal regulations, memoranda, and legislation affecting education.
  • Deliver actionable feedback to administrators to recommend and implement program enhancements. Conduct in-service programs and provide mentorship as required.
  • Provide program leadership with guidance to local school districts, charter schools, and stakeholders in leading, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of their academic programs and services.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships by fostering strategic partnerships with stakeholders with internal and external partnerships to support DCIU programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee report preparation and submission of data for federal, state, and district monitoring of education programs.
  • Performs other duties as requested and/or assigned.

Education Required: Master’s degree in education or a related field.
 
Certification Required: Special Education Supervisor Certification; Supervisor Certification in a related field may be considered (e.g. K-12 Principal, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education) PDE Teaching Certification in a K-12 Subject Area.
 
Experience Required: Minimum 6-8 Years of progressive educational administrative experience.  Expertise in Pupil Services, Special Education, a must. Proven experience managing large-scale budgets and engaging with diverse customers and stakeholders.
