Job Description:  
Under the direction of the Dean of Students, the Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment favorable to the learning and personal growth of every student; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each student’s abilities; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members. At all times, the Teacher will cooperate with other staff to maintain the smooth functioning of the school, which may require changes to meet the needs of the students.

Schedule:  
All teachers are required to work year round to help meet the needs of our students and prevent summer learning loss. Regular Academic Year (Aug - Jun): 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (37.5 hours per week).
Summer Enrichment Program (Jun - Jul): 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for five (5) to six (6) weeks (25 hours per week)
Professional Development (Aug): two (2) to three (3) weeks of professional development (Hours vary).

Additional professional development, parent-teacher conferences, and family engagement nights may required additional hours from time to time and will be determined by the Director of Education and/or Dean of Students.

Education/Certification:
  • REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree
  • REQUIRED: Valid Pennsylvania N-3 or PK - 4 or K - 6 Teaching Certificate
Essential Duties:
  1. Instruct students utilizing a course of study which meets stated objectives and goals.
  2. Instruct students in citizenship and leadership skills.
  3. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that align with the adopted course of study.
  4. Provide individualized and small group instruction that is adapted to meet the needs of each student.
  5. Translate lessons plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage the students.
  6. Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
  7. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  8. Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  9. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress.
  10. Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing students’ needs.
  11. Create effective learning environments through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
  12. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, i.e. field trips.
  13. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with school and state testing programs.
  14. Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  15. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities as required.
  16. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Education.
Other Related Functions of this Position:
  1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  2. Participate in faculty meetings, team meetings, and special events, such as Leader in Me events or Parent Engagement Nights, as assigned.
  3. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the student’s academic success.
  4. Respond to emergency situations (e.g. student injuries, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  5. Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, and a friendly attitude and general guidance.
  6. Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
  7. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  8. Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics and student confidentiality.
  9. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Bilingual preferred, but not required.
  • Experience implementing differentiated instruction, guided reading and writing, instructional centers, and cooperative learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
Experience:
  • Experience working in an instructional environment.
  • Experience using educational software programs and mobile devices in the classroom is preferred, but not required if the candidate demonstrates a desire to participate in the appropriate professional development.
